As a child I was never considered athletic. I was somewhat active, but I never played any sports and was never competitive. Now, although I'm still new to lifting and competing, I'm quite the opposite. Although I'm not naturally athletic, I've been working hard to become more athletic, "tough" and coordinated over the past year. It took me gaining a lot of weight to get to this point though.
After high school I gained a lot of weight. They say it's the "Freshmen 15", but mine was the "Freshmen 40". I went from weighing 120lbs (with no muscle) to 160lbs (with no muscle). I spent a year feeling constantly tired, sluggish and self-concious. I finally decided on New Years 2008 to make a change. I began eating right and started to lose some weight. After several months of eating right, I began exercising. After joining Snap Fitness in Bellevue, I started to consistently workout and eat right. That's when it all changed. In May of 2008, Peter De La Rosa, the Fitness Director at Snap Fitness, approached me about training for the 2008 WA Ironman. I said yes and my life was forever changed :) Both Pete and Brent Hruska trained me and I worked hard to learn from them. I spent 4 months soaking up the experience and information that they provided. By the time October rolled around, I competed in Figure at the 2008 WA Ironman. Although I did not place very well (12th Place to be exact), it felt great to make so much progress and lose the weight I had previously gained.
After that first show, I was hooked.
With help from Tanji and the Snap Fitness crew, I decided to compete in Bikini for the 2009 season. I took 3rd place at the 2009 Vancouver show and 6th place at the 2009 Emerald Cup. I'm determined to go Pro and I'm excited for the changes that I'll be making for the 2009 WA Ironman.
My goal is to soak up as much knowledge and experience as possible, so that I can effectively help other girl's lives just as the staff at Snap Fitness helped me.
